What to Do on a Rainy Day in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley
Indoor activities, free museums, local art, arcades and a full-day water park plan for a rainy beach vacation.

A rainy beach day does not have to become a day in the condo. Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley have enough indoor activities to fill an hour or a full afternoon. The best choice depends on whether you want to keep the kids moving, slow down with local art and history, or make the most of a full day away from the sand.
Quick picks: For active kids, try The Factory in Gulf Shores, Fat Daddy’s Arcade in Orange Beach, or Tropic Falls in Foley. For a quieter and lower-cost outing, start with one of the local museums or art galleries. If heavy rain is expected, choose a single indoor destination rather than a shopping area that requires walking between buildings.
Gulf Shores: Play, art and local history
Let the kids burn off energy at The Factory Gulf Shores. Its indoor trampoline and climbing options make this a practical choice when a beach morning gets washed out. Check the available sessions and age or activity rules before you head over, especially on a day when other families have the same idea.
Make an easy arcade stop at Fat Daddy’s Arcade at The Track. The arcade operates rain or shine. The Track has outdoor attractions too, but the arcade is the part to plan around when the weather will not cooperate.
Take a slower hour at the Gulf Shores Museum. Admission is free, and the exhibits offer a look at the area beyond the beach. The city lists a midday closure on weekdays and shorter Saturday hours, so check the schedule before leaving.
Browse local art at the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance gallery. This is a good fit for adults or families who want a relaxed stop and a locally made souvenir. It also pairs naturally with a meal in Gulf Shores once the rain eases.
Orange Beach: Make something, solve something or catch a movie
Explore the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach. Its gallery features work by Gulf Coast artists, and the center also offers glass and clay experiences. Browsing the gallery and making a piece are different plans: the Hot Shop and Clay Studio require appointments. The gallery is generally a weekday option, so check its hours before building your day around it.
Book an escape room at Breakout Games Orange Beach. This is an indoor option for a family with older kids, a group of friends, or a couple looking for something more involved than shopping. Check game times and book ahead if rain is in the forecast.
Keep it simple at Fat Daddy’s Arcade in Orange Beach. Games and prizes make it an easy flexible stop when you do not want to commit to a full-day attraction.
See what is playing at AMC CLASSIC Wharf 15. A movie can anchor a rainy afternoon. The Wharf also has restaurants and shops, but getting between them involves outdoor walking, so bring a rain jacket if you plan to make a longer outing of it.
For a free history stop, the Orange Beach History Museum displays artifacts tied to the community’s Native American and fishing heritage. Confirm its visiting hours before going.
Foley: The strongest full-day rain plan
Spend the day at Tropic Falls Indoor Water Park at OWA. This is the biggest “the beach is rained out” option on the list: water attractions, food and an arcade are available under the roof. Check the operating calendar and ticket options first. OWA’s theme park rides and parts of its water park are outdoors, so focus your plan on the indoor water park when rain is persistent.
Visit the Foley Railroad Museum and Model Train Exhibit. The museum tells part of Foley’s railroad history, while the model trains are especially fun for children and train enthusiasts. Admission is free. The model train exhibit has a more limited schedule than the museum, so check that it is operating on the day you visit.
Step inside the Holmes Medical Museum. Housed in Baldwin County’s first hospital, it preserves early medical equipment and the story of health care in Foley. It is a distinctive short stop for visitors who enjoy local history.
Try Neon Rebellion Laser Tag at Downtown OWA if your group wants another active indoor option. Downtown OWA’s restaurants and shops can round out the trip, though walking between them is outside. Likewise, Tanger Outlets Foley has plenty of stores but is an open-air center, making it better for scattered showers than a sustained downpour.
Three easy rainy-day plans
One free or low-cost afternoon: Gulf Shores Museum, then the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance gallery; or pair Foley’s railroad and medical museums.
A high-energy family day: Choose The Factory or an arcade for a shorter outing. Choose Tropic Falls when you want the rainy day itself to become the main event.
An Orange Beach date or group outing: Reserve an art experience or escape room, then check movie times or choose a nearby restaurant.
Hours, tickets and class availability can change, especially with weather and seasonal schedules. Open the linked venue page before you drive over. If the forecast includes severe weather, follow local alerts and wait for safe travel conditions.
